My god, what is a Dazzler fan to do these days? For 20 years you wait for your favorite character to return to the spotlight, and when she does, she is so fantastically written and amazing, that she even becomes the first mutant President of the United States in the future!
I feel like Brian Bendis is writing this stuff just for me...
So, despite Dazzler being assassinated in the same issue, this is an amazing journey we're on here in Battle of the Atom. I didn't really know what to expect, I just knew that it would be great, and it has been.
I can't remember the last time it was this good to be an X-Men fan. All of the core books are great right now, and Battle of the Atom has been fantastic so far, and now we find out that the future X-Men we've been dealing with for the last month aren't actually the future X-Men, but the ones that Illyana, young Beast and young Iceman meet in this issue are, and then they come back to the past to meet up with the Uncanny X-Men?!!!
Holy smokes this is awesome!! It honestly feels like being a kid again when I read this. Battle of the Atom has been nothing short of amazing, and there are only four parts left to go, I can't wait to see how this ends up!!
And one more note about Bendis, talk about honoring the past. The scenes in the future with Hank morning Alison's death are so reminiscent of the final few issues of Dazzler's series in the 80s and of the mini series Beauty and the Beast (featuring Ali and Hank) that it made me a bit wistful. Bravo, Bendis, bravo.
