I enjoyed this #0 issue more than I thought I would. It was certainly an interesting way to set up the biggest event of the year for Marvel. Two stories are presented here from two different writers, but held together visually by the always amazing art of Frank Cho.
Brian Bendis presents a heart-breaking re-introduction of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, to her old team the Avengers. Lets just say, the women take seeing Wanda again much better than the men do.
The second story is Jason Aaron providing a tale of Hope's adventures into San Francisco. We've probably all seen the preview of this 1,000 times by now, but what we haven't seen is the creative second-half of this tale. Hope ventures into SF and faces....wait for it...
The Serpent Society! Now that is an unexpected way to kick-off such a huge event.
This issue was purely introduction and set up, but while the action was rather benign, it served its purpose nicely. Two well-paced character-driven stories that will probably be the only calm moment we get before the proverbial storm.
I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would.
