Well, I suppose the easiest way to answer that is by asking if you plan on reading any DC comic books going forward? As with most of the books available on FCBD, they are intended to give you a taste of what the company has to offer, so most of the comics that you will find available that day are just that, teasers.
Divergence #1 follows suit with what DC (and Marvel) have been doing for the past few years on FCBD though. The material here is not reprints or older stories, they are all new stories, intended to set the stage for what is coming after their current ongoing crossover event, Convergence.
Here in Divergence #1, DC gives us three new stories, each involving one of the most popular books in the line.
The first story is about the new Batman, who you can see on the cover. If you haven't already read spoilers for this, I won't ruin it now, but the changes that are about to take place in 'Batman' following the current story arc (Endgame) seem to be quite monumental, as Bruce Wayne will no longer be Batman (we have seen this before though), and someone new is stepping in to fill his shoes. The story is a brief eight pages, but it doesn't disappoint, as there is quite a shocking reveal on the final page.
The second story focuses on Superman, and builds on the current arc running through that title (Superman, not Action Comics). If you are reading that book, then what takes place here in Divergence #1 won't come as a huge surprise, but if this is the first time you have picked up a Superman book in a while, this will be quite a revelation for you.
The final story is an introduction to the upcoming Justice League event, 'Darkseid War'. The story focuses on Wonder Woman, rounding out a comic complete with all three members of DC's "Trinity". The story presented here actually involves yet another significant change to Wonder Woman's history, and opens up story possibilities that I can see continuing well beyond the 'Darkseid War' story line.
Overall, this is another excellent FCBD offering from DC, which makes this three years in a row the publisher has given fans a reason to show up early on FCBD to make sure they can snag a copy of this issue. If you are a DC fan, or plan on reading anything after Convergence, I think this is definitely a book you should be picking up next Saturday, May 2nd on FCBD.
Our celebration starts at 10:00 AM, and will run until we close at 6:00 PM. Our FCBD sale will also continue on Sunday, May 3rd, so even if you can't join us for the festivities, you can still take advantage of one of our biggest sales of the year.
More information on our FCBD celebration can be found on this page.
