I love The Walking Dead, it's the top of the pile every week it comes out, but man, we've been stuck in neutral for a long time now. Have we really been dealing with Negan for almost 20 issues now?
It's been a drawn out set up, and I like the direction Kirkman is headed with this leading up to 'All Out War' starting in October, but more than one issue in the past year has been like this one. Things happen, and there's some drama and a little violence, but overall, not much happened to advance the story along.
Basically, everyone is standing in exactly the same spot, doing almost exactly the same thing on page 20 as they were doing on page 1. Things happened in the middle, but the story stayed in exactly the same place.
I love The Walking Dead with every fiber of my being, but it's time to get this train back on the tracks. We have another issue to go before 'All Out War' begins, so I'm willing to venture a guess someone (or more than one) is going to die next issue, which will be the catalyst for the "war", but after that, I want to see this book start back on the path of the being the legend that it is.
I'm a rabid little fanboy thinking about how great it's going to be getting this book bi-weekly from October to April, but waiting for that payoff has become a bit of an unexpected drag.
I'm not used to not gushing over The Walking Dead, so this is weird for me. C'mon Kirkman, bring it back strong!
