Kieron Gillen has been quietly writing this wonderful X-book with a fantastic team, but it's been brilliantly overshadowed by Wolverine and the X-Men month in and month out. Sure, that's a wonderful book too, but if you JUST TAKE GREG LAND OFF OF THIS TITLE, this is what you get!
Gillen matches Jason Aaron's WatXM dialogue every issue, but it's easy to overlook because of Greg Land's crappy art sucking up all of the awesome on every page and pooping it out into what can only be described as faceless, horizontal panels of feet and backs-of-heads that in some Marvel editor's eyes pass the most basic, loose definition of art I can imagine.
Now, Carlos Pacheco is back, and this issue is awesome! Some great super villain ass-whipping, some quippy Emma Frost dialogue (Gillen writes a better White Queen than anyone in history, period), and art that is decent enough to make this book shine like the gem it truly is.
This issue may feel a little forced leading in to the AvX crossover, but whatever, it's got Gillen's signature dialogue, some awesome split-squad action, DIRE-FREAKING-WRAITHS, and stupid-ass Wolverine leering angrily at Scott!
I've been dying for this, KEEP GREG LAND OFF OF THIS TITLE!!!!
Pick this up, it's bad ass.
