I have recently been re-watching 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' from the beginning, and doing short 140 character reviews of each episode on our Twitter account. One day I would love to find the time to give all 145 episodes of this fantastic series a proper review, but for now, the tweet reviews will have to suffice.
One of the problems with Twitter though is that tweets get easily lost in the stream as time goes by. These review entries of each season of BTVS will serve as an archive of those tweets so that they can be easily viewed on a single page.
For a longer synopsis of BTVS as a whole, and its impact then and now, please see my
first season recap.
Before I get to the tweet review recap, some quick thoughts on season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
With a cumulative season score of 8.18, you can see that the overall quality of this season is very high. With only a few sub-par episodes ('Inca Mummy Girl', 'Bad Eggs' and 'Go Fish') bringing the overall quality of the season down slightly, season two sets the bar for what fans should come to expect from BTVS. After a first season spent with a more villain-of-the-week motif and lots of finding itself, Buffy and the gang establish their legitimate place at the top of the prime time charts here in the sophomore season. The big Angel turn dominates the upper echelon of the best episodes of the season, with the one notable exception being episode three, 'School Hard', the arrival of Spike and Drusilla.
Many big moments are had here in season two; the aforementioned turning of Angel into the primary villain of the season, the arrival of Spike and Drusilla, Oz's integration into the Scooby gang and the death of Jenny Calendar highlight a season that belongs among the best single-seasons of a television show, ever.
